About the Mira Grant trilogy, that might be the only way I end up reading the final book, too.

Concerning "Among Others", I didn't grow up in the same time period (the story takes place a few years before I was born), but there was still a lot that I could identify with in Mori's story. I had no fairies either, though, sadly :).

As far as predictions, I really have no idea who's going to win this time around! I favor "Among Others", but I think the award could easily be taken by any of my top three, and the other two are really popular as well.
Alliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03683230093775720398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6074055834975214817.post-9708294904429325862012-08-16T02:44:21.327-04:002012-08-16T02:44:21.327-04:00I have pretty much the same summary. And you have ...I have pretty much the same summary. And you have it spot on with "Deadline," particularly that part about the plot twist. In a real sense it spoiled my overall experience of "Feed" to the extend that I've lost interest in continuing with the series. I guess the only way I may end up reading the final book is when that to is nominated for a Hugo :)

"Among Others" were really great, and I agree with you about the specific target audience. I'm 45, so the references Walton used were snippets from my own experience. I guess that's why the book resonated so well with me. Interestingly, the social isolation and the struggle to be freed from "mother's" influences is almost a carbon copy of my own story. Pity I never saw the fairies, though ;)

I'm very intrigued to see how the final ballot for the Hugo's will turn out. Last year was actually quite predictable, and this time round I like to think the ballot is a little more open-ended. Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06944487011611580147noreply@blogger.com
