I like how this series shows again and again that having power over one's own fertility is so important to quality of life for women.Alliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03683230093775720398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6074055834975214817.post-58235437544592551202016-11-06T21:18:27.392-05:002016-11-06T21:18:27.392-05:004. His life will certainly be interesting - providing Carey doesn't cut it too short!
2. - that whole scene with Justina feels a bit odd now I think about it - I can't help wonder what the whole inclusion of this was - what was behind Carey's inclusion of this aspect - unless maybe to introduce the fact that Melisande has spies everywhere?
3. 'Astegal is a crummy, cheating, inconsiderate husband' He really is!
4. OMG that tattoo carving scene was horrible - I don't think I could have done that if I was Imriel!
5. - so funny - a few hundred years ago and people would have persecuted you for those intuitive powers!
Lynn :DAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6074055834975214817.post-4441643361459250512016-10-31T07:21:29.510-04:002016-10-31T07:21:29.510-04:00I think I get what you mean. If he hadn't killed them, they would have tried to kill him and Sidonie. I don't have much sympathy for the guards anyway, because I assume they've been taking part of the pillaging of Aragonia. Since this is a reread for me, when I read your comment a week ago, I cackled and just couldn't wait to see your reaction when you learn how right your prediction was!!!

Concerning self-defense, this is something that, I don't know, maybe I'm just completely cold hearted. Or maybe I would feel differently in the situation. But I feel like, Imriel killing the guards, that was self defense/defense of others too. It wasn't immediate or direct, but they were involved (even indirectly) in the kidnapping and ensorcellment of Sidonie. It might be similar to battered woman syndrome. After years of abuse, when an abused spouse kills her abuser while he is vulnerable, a lot of times the justice system doesn't view that as self-defense. But she knows that he will kill her eventually, and she needed an opening. I might be explaining that badly, but I don't want to go off too far on a tangent.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
